PIMUN 2013

Pour la seconde année consécutive, des étudiants de 6 écoles et facultés françaises se sont associés afin d’organiser une des plus grandes simulations des Nations Unies d’Europe.
Les 31 mai et 1er juin à Sciences Po et le 2 juin à l'UNESCO, venez rejoindre les 600 autres étudiants internationaux venus du monde entier. Venez débattre en français et anglais sur les enjeux majeurs de notre temps en vous mettant dans la peau de vrais acteurs internationaux puisque 12 comités seront reconstitués.
De l’UNESCO à ECOFIN (Economic and Financial Committee) en passant par l’UEFA, un grand nombre de sujets seront traités. Pour vous détendre après ces sessions intenses, des soirées inoubliables seront proposées à tous les délégués au cœur de la Ville des Lumières.
Pour conclure ces 3 jours de débats, venez prendre littéralement la place d’un délégué aux Nations Unies à l’UNESCO.

Alice GOFFMAN is Assistant Professor of Sociology at the niversity of Wisconsin-Madison. She is an urban sociologist who grew up in Philadelphia. Her dissertation was an ethnographic account of the heavily policed ghetto that emerged as the US continues a War on Drugs and imprisons poor black men on a massive scale, and received the 2011 Best Dissertation Award from the American Sociological Association. With Mitchell Duneier, she recently completed a history and sociology of the ghetto from early modern Europe to the present.

Nonna MAYER is CNRS Research Director at the Centre for European Studies of Sciences Po (CEE). An expert in electoral sociology, she has published on the extreme right, racism, anti-Semitism and political participation. She is President of the French Political Science Association (AFSP) since 2005 and edits the series “Contester” (Protest), at the Presses de Sciences Po devoted to the transformations of the collective action repertoires.

Guest speaker:
Philip MADER, postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne. His work studies the political economy of finance, focusing on the causes and effects of the global expansion of microfinance. For his doctorate, which is being published as a book with Palgrave, he performed fieldwork in Andhra Pradesh, India, on the impacts of microfinance projects for water and sanitation. He has written extensively on the Indian microfinance crisis in blogs and newspapers. He previously studied economics and development studies in Sussex, Cambridge and Harvard.
Discussant :
Marion FOURCADE, director at the Maxpo and Associate Professor of Sociology at UC Berkeley. She is the author of Economists and Societies (Princeton University Press 2009). Her current work is examining the cultural and institutional logic of what we may call “national classificatory styles” across a wide range of empirical domains, including environmental valuation, the digitization of books and the classification of wines. Other ongoing research focuses on the role of the credit market in social stratification (with Kieran Healy); the comparative study of political organization (with Evan Schofer and Brian Lande); the microsociology of courtroom exchanges (with Roi Livne); and the role of business schools in the neoliberal turn (with Rakesh Khurana).

Transatlantic Debating Championship 2013 : Finale

Le Transatlantic Debating Championship oppose pour sa deuxième édition les meilleurs orateurs des universités de Princeton, Cambridge, la Berlin Debating Union (Freïe et Humboldt), Polytechnique, Assas et Sciences Po. Les trois semifinales auront lieu le 10 avril (Amphithéâtre Caquot), sur les motions « French millionaires should flee to England », « America has no culture », et « France should be more German ».
A l'issue de cette journée seront choisies les deux équipes qui débattront en Boutmy le 11 avril sur le sujet « Germany should let Europe die ». May the best speakers win !
Le jury sera présidée par H.E. Susanne WASUM-RAINER, Ambassadeur d'Allemagne en France

Depuis 1909 la communauté internationale a travaillé à éradiquer la toxicomanie. Plus d'un siècle après, il est largement admis que ces efforts ont échoué, voire provoqué de la violence liée au marché noir et des violations des droits de l'homme. Quelles sont les origines de ce système pour le contrôle de la drogue, pourquoi demeure-t-il tellement résistant face à maints échecs, et peut-on s'attendre à la réforme du système ?
