As an international center of excellence in the social sciences, Sciences Po has established exchange partnerships over 350 universities worldwide.
Students from any of these partner universities can come to Sciences Po on an exchange programme.
The undergraduate exchange programme
Students must have completed at least four semesters of undergraduate studies prior to enrolling into the undergraduate exchange program.
The vast majority of exchange students come to Sciences Po for the whole academic year, but they can also enrol into this program for one semester only.
Exchange students can opt for instruction in French, English or a combination of the two, according to their home university’s policy.
All classes are completely integrated into the regular undergraduate curriculum, and international students take classes alongside their French counterparts. Exchange students can concentrate their studies according to their interests and home university requirements.
The concentrations offered are in Economics and Business, European Studies, French Studies, History, International Relations, Law, Political Sciences, Sustainable Development.
Exchange students can take as many courses as they consider reasonable, they need to respect the indications given to them by their home university.
However, students staying for one full year and who obtain a minimum of 45 ECTS credits, will obtain the “Undergaduate exchange programme certificate” at the end of their stay at Sciences Po. This diploma is a recognition of a one year undergraduate program. Students wishing to stay on at Sciences Po and enrol into the Master program will need to validate at least 55 ECTS credits over the year.
The majority of undergraduate students study at the Paris campus.
However, Sciences Po also has six decentralised campuses located outside of Paris, each of which has a distinct cultural identity. As an alternative to Paris, it is possible for undergraduate exchange students to enrol into one of the regional campuses.
Paris campus welcome a special one term program starting in january for undergraduate student:The Undergraduate Journalism Program for International Student.
Students wishing to come to Sciences Po on an exchange at undergraduate level must apply through the International office in their home university.
Students should be chosen by their home university to come on an exchange to Sciences Po and all applications should go through the home university to our International Office.
Language requirements for international exchange students
Sciences Po considers that students need to attain a certain language level in order to participate actively in courses taught in languages other than their mother tongue or the language of teaching at their home institution.
We therefore require International students coming to Sciences Po as part of an exchange agreement to demonstrate their language proficiency in French (if they wish to enrol in classes taught in French) and in English (if they wish to enrol classes taught in English). We strongly encourage students to inform us of scores obtained on recognised language tests, as this will enable them to enrol in classes without passing the Sciences Po placement test.
The required proficiency levels are:
- French
If your mother tongue and/or the language of the teaching at your home institution is not French and if you wish to enrol in classes taught in French, you will need to provide evidence of:
At least a European level B2, corresponding to a score of 400 on the TCF or to a level DELF B2.
Students coming from US universities are invited to contact their Study abroad advisor in order to fill out the appropriate language level form.
- English
If your mother tongue and/or the language of the teaching at your home institution is not English and if you wish to enrol in classes taught in English, you will need to provide evidence of:
At least a European level B2, corresponding to a score of 80 on the TOEFL IBT (Internet Based Test) or of 6 on the IELTS. We accept equivalent scores of all other major English language proficiency tests
All students who do not provide test scores will have to pass the Sciences Po online placement test before enrolling in classes. This exam will evaluate your language skills and place you in a language level from 1-5. (5 being the highest) In order to be eligible to enrol in classes in French at Sciences Po, you must be placed in or above level 2 French. In order to enrol in classes in English at Sciences Po, you will need to obtain level 3 in English.
